Rumors
- Carolina Hurricanes–post trade deadline
- As usual, I’m a day (or more) late and a dollar (or more) short. I was supposed to write a pre-trade deadline post about what the Hurricanes could possibly do on Trade Deadline day. Part of the reason I didn’t write it is because who the heck ever knows what Jim Rutherford is going to [...]
- The Roots of the Beard
- “Nobody can be successful if he doesn’t love his work, love his job.” – David Sarnoff And yes, I love this job. Thanks to Alin Mateescu and staff for bringing me to RMT. Arguably, the best fan-centric franchise in the NHL resides at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota. In their fledgling nine years, as [...]
- Islanders Week In Review
- I’ll be updating this column weekly, tracking the season of the New York Islanders. Games: 10/23/08- Islanders 3, Dallas Stars 5 10/25/08- Islanders 3, Carolina Hurricanes 4 News and Notes: - The Islanders set a club record for shots on goal in a game (60) against Carolina. - Starting goalie Rick Dipietro apparently injured himself again during the Carolina game. His [...]
- Could There be a Second Hockeytown?
- An article posted on TSN this morning is beginning to stir up a lot of discussion about the NHL in Toronto. The article suggests that National Hockey League officials think the Toronto hockey market is big and strong enough to have a second team. An anonymous governor of the NHL said "Why shouldn't we put another team in the biggest and best market in the world?" Other executives around the NHL seemed to have no idea about this. Jim Rutherford of the Carolina Hurricanes said he had not heard anything like this at the meetings he had been at.
- Islanders Week In Review
- I'll be updating this column weekly, tracking the season of the New York Islanders. The big story thus far has been the inactivity of franchise goalie Rick Dipietro. He finally received his first start of the year against Florida on Saturday night and let in a goal early on. However, he settled down afterwards and played reasonably well, keeping the Islanders in the game.
Transactions
- New Jersey Devils At The Deadline
- New Jersey Devils (39-19-3) — 1st, Atlantic…3rd Conf. What got them there? Well honestly a resilient offense and timely goaltending from someone not named Martin Brodeur for most of the season is what got the Devils to this point. When Brodeur went down on November 1st…did anyone expect them to be in this position? No! Scott [...]
- Making Moves: Pens Deal Ryan Whitney
- The Pens give up on Ryan Whitney and look to make a playoff push.
- Tom Renney out, John Tortorella in
- And so the ongoing rumour came true, The Rangers changed their coach. Tortorella is a fiery coach, maybe that’s what the Rangers need, it’s true most of them are underperforming, but we can’t get too picky on a team that has lacked quality finishers all year long. On the other hand Renney, is NOT a bad coach, [...]
- Schneider Traded To Montreal
- The Montreal Canadiens have traded for Mathieu Schneider.
- Devils Trade Brookbank to Ducks
- The Devils traded defenseman Sheldon Brookbank to the Anaheim Ducks for the rights to center David McIntyre. The trade of Brookbkank opens up a spot for the Devils to add another player to their roster before the trade deadline.
